“Charles ”

Things are looking up on the corner of West 10th and West 4th Street. The space that was most recently Les Deux Gamin and for 23 years was La Maiterie, is now Charles, a sweet 60-seat space with a groovy vibe owned by a team of first time restaurateurs from the fashion, marketing, and design worlds: Cobi Levy, Sean Largotta and Doug Aikin.

The Mediterranean menu, by consulting chef John Delucie (Waverly Inn) features simple, rustic and flavorful food: flatbread with tapenade, roast chicken with romesco, steak with roasted cherry tomatoes, scallops with cauliflower puree, short ribs with Swiss chard, pine nuts and golden raisings, and for espresso panna cotta and a ricotta gelato and biscotti ice cream sandwich. Prices are gentle: $8-$12 for apps, and an average $25 for entrees.

Charles is open seven nights a week for dinner, 6pm-midnight weekdays, 6pm-1am on Friday and Saturday. It is located at 234 West 4th Street, corner of West 10th Street. Reservations are accepted by email only at reservations@restaurantcharles.com.
