The Strong Buzz

Around six months into my pregnancy with Emily I discovered a little cafe in Cobble Hill called Ted & Honey. Just off of Cobble Hill Park, on the corner of Verandah Place, the spot was welcoming and adorable: a cherry red facade, benches filled with families, and a menu stocked with homemade biscuits, scones, and muffins, fresh sandwiches made from grass-fed beef, and Heritage breeds, and an array of homemade sweets from pop tart pastries to chunky oatmeal raisin cookies studded with white chocolate chunks and fresh tart cranberries. I was a fan in an instant.

Turns out, Michelle Mannix, who owns the restaurant with her brother Chris (his nick name is Ted), and her husband Dan, was pregnant, too. Her son Jackson arrived about four months after Emily, and we've watched our little ones grow together, from boob bandits to babies with an appetite for "real" food.

Her brother Chris, who is also the father of a toddler, was making his own food for Sophie, which made two babies in need of sustenance. The next logical step was to start making enough for the neighborhood and today that's what they've done.

This week they debut their line of organic baby food. Flavors change weekly and this week's are wild blueberry, anjou pear, and fuji apple and ginger. They are packed in BPA free plastic ball "jars" that can be frozen and the amount is 8 oz - which makes about 4 servings.  They are $4.00 and if you bring back the 'jar' we will sterilize it, re-fill it and it will be .50 cents off.

Ted & Honey is located at 264 Clinton Street, (718) 852-2212.
