The Strong Buzz

Sheridan Square, and its sister tapas bar, Tierra (which was open a total of two days), have both closed. These restaurants have been trying to stay afloat since their (numbered) days as Central Kitchen and Tasca and the subsequent  takeover and failed bailout by investors who made the situation even worse by hiring the itinerant Gary Robins who lasted all of four months.

After Robbins left, they called in a consultant, Chris Palikuca (the ex GM of A Voce) and hired chef Franklin Becker to make things right. But to try and rescue a restaurant in August, especially in this time of distress in the financial markets, was not possible. After middling reviews the owners pulled the plug and have found a buyer.

Rumors on the blogs place that buyer as Jeff Lefcourt and Glenn Harris of The Smith, but my recent conversation with Jeff revealed that while they are actively looking for another location for The Smith, hopefully on the West Side, they have not yet found one. More to come.
