The Strong Buzz

A warm, hearty ragu or a pumpkin-filled ravioli drizzled with hazelnut-brown butter may be the furthest thing from your mind (and taste buds) in the summer. But when autumn’s plaid-wearing weather comes around, it’s perfect. If you’re looking to satisfy your hankering for rustic Italian food in the chilly weather, the James Beard Foundation Greens group (which throws events for foodies ages 21 to 40) is partnering with Trattoria Cinque (363 Green St.) for a Monday Night Supper event. At this newly opened eatery, executive chef Mirco Grassini will start the evening off with samplings of olives, arancini di riso parmigiano (deep-fried risottoa balls) and salumi with glasses of Prosecco. Next he’ll move to some family-style classics like bubbling, thin-crust margherita pizzas and simple pastas such as a rigatoni speckled with onion, pecorino Romano and crushed red peppers. Vintages from some of Italy’s most well-known wine regions will be served, too. The event is $50 for foundation members and $60 for the general public.
