“The Best Little Toy Store in Brooklyn (is not actually a toy store)”

I’ve always loved Module R, Brooklyn’s home design and storage shop on Atlantic Avenue featuring sleek modern art and design products you can customize, personalize, stack, nest, alter, expand, recombine, cluster and transform. The shop is bright and beautiful and invites you to imagine how mod and streamlined your home might look if only it were stocked with Module R loot. You’ll find kitchen items like ceramic tea pots in pastels and nesting bowls and spoons in cheerful bold hues (display these in an run down kitchen and you’ve accomplished the cheapest remodel possible), winding swirly wall shelves, cool photo display ideas, and storage solutions that look like museum art but are just as high on function. It's where all the cool kids shop; on my last visit, Downton Abbey's Matthew, Daniel Stevens, was shopping as well. (He's quite dreamy in person.)

But do yourself a favor if you have kids – walk to the back of the store where you’ll find the best toy store ever – a hidden gem filled with toys made abroad and at home that emphasize creativity, science, motor skills, fun, and style. Want a dollhouse but can’t muster the pinks and frills that most come covered in? Try the uber-modern Brinca Dada dollhouses, with mid-century modern furniture lines to match, inspired by architect Richard Neutra’s Kaufmann House and the Gary Cooper residence by A. Quincy Jones.

There are beautiful blocks and puzzles Grimm and Kapla, mind-bending puzzle shapes like Ball of Wax, building sets like Magna-Tiles and Zoom-Bot, Log Cabins, Imaginet sets, lunch boxes, Automoblox cars, super cool accessories for LEGO (I love the LEGO heads), and so much more. All toys fuel little imaginations and inspire minds. The best part? All toys are set up for play in the rear of the store. Kids are welcome to stay and explore the shop (with parental supervision) and enjoy the fun. Toys are not cheap, so you may want to start a piggy bank fund now for your first purchase.
