“Jewel Bako”

  Occasion: Cuisine: Area: Cost: Rating:
Night Out Asian East Village Break the Bank Off the Charts

This is one restaurant that sounds like it’s name—it is a shoebox-sized, jewel of a place, serving precious, glorious sushi and sashimi, as well as more traditional Japanese meals. The tiny, intimate, and chic East Village sliver of a space is owned by Jack and Grace Lamb, the husband and wife team behind Jack's Luxury Oyster Bar, across the street, and Blue Goose Foods, a takeout shop, around the corner. This picture-perfect couple makes it their mission to insure your experience is marked by warm service and gracious hospitality. The restaurant’s small size and popular following makes reserving ahead a good plan.

Jewel Bako, 239 East 5th Street, b/w Bowery & Second Avenue, 212-979-1012
