Maury Rubin, the owner and creator of City Bakery, would probably have a warrant taken out on him if he ever closed City Bakery. Literally, New Yorkers would revolt and hunt him down. This hall of out-of-this-world baked goods is perpetually jammed with trendy locals craving his rich and creamy hot chocolate with housemade marshmallows, and his signature try-and-stop-at-one pretzel croissants. Aside from his selection of baked goods, he offers a dreamy buffet stocked with sandwiches, salads, antipasti, sandwiches and soups made from scratch from the freshest seasonal ingredients. Just try and leave without loosening your belt buckle. City Bakery, 3 West 18th Street, b/w Fifth and Sixth Aves., 212-366-1414.
