“Fish Heads, Eel Bones and Beer at EN, Chocolate for a Cause, Organic Wine Dinner at Tangled”

Fish Heads, Eel Bones and Beer at EN!

In a Japanese restaurant kitchen nothing gets wasted. Cooks make magic even with humble ingredients like fish heads, bones, vegetable peels, and scraps of rich wagyu beef, turning them into delicious, irresistible dishes. But not dishes for the us, the customers—this is meal for the cooks themselves. These wondrous restaurant-family meals, called makanai, have inspired EN’s Chef Hiroki Abe to cook a lustrous tasting menu of tasty treats rarely found on a Japanese restaurant menu.

Join EN Brasserie this Saturday (and every first of the every month) at 10 pm, to enjoy Chef Abe’s creations the way his team does at the end of a busy shift—relaxed, with beer in hand (in your case, all you can drink Sapporo, at $45 per person). To reserve, call 212.647.9196.

EN is located at 435 Hudson Street (at Leroy).

An Organic Wine Dinner at Tangled
To celebrate its first anniversary, The Tangled Vine Wine Bar & Kitchen (434 Amsterdam Avenue, 646-863-3905) is throwing a series of fun events all month long. This Sunday at 7:30 they will host the Natural Winemakers’ Week Taste of the Mediterranean wine dinner with Flos de Pinoso and Domaine de la Patience, two organic wine producers from France and Spain presenting a selection of white and red wines that will be complemented by Tangled Vine Chef David Seigal’s Mediterranean feast.

One of the pioneers of organic winemaking in the region of Valencia, Flos de Pinoso has been making wines the natural way since 1997. Presented wines will showcase indigenous grapes such as Macabeo, Airén and Monastrell. On the other side of the border, in Costières de Nîmes in the South of France, Domaine de la Patience takes its name from a wild local herb that grows in the vineyard. The winery is headed by winemaker Christophe Aguilar who, having taken over his family’s winery in the 1990s, has in recent years moved to organic farming. Christophe will be in attendance at the event.

Bridging southern France and Spain, chef David Seigal, who worked in Barcelona, will offer a succession of dishes such as pissaladiere, a pizza-like pie from the South of France, mussels Provencal, selection of tapas: patatas bravas, Spanish olives, charcuterie, gambas al ajillo garlic shrimp, chorizo a la plancha, and the piece de resistance – a large paella. The food and wine will flow over the course of the festive and casual but fun evening, and you’ll be able to meet and speak with the wine producers.

Seats are $49 per person, unlimited food & wine. Reservations at 646-863-3896 or vica@tangledvinebar.com.

Happy Weekend!
