“Diamond Jubilee Celebration at JWF; Bedford Post Opens its Patio”

Diamond Jubilee Celebration at Jones Wood Foundry

On Sunday June 3, the very British Jones Wood Foundry will salute HM Queen Elizabeth II’s 60th year on the throne with a day-long Diamond Jubilee Celebration. Produced in association with the American-Scottish Foundation, the appropriately eccentric event will showcase a royal roster of entertainment our in the Conservator and Garden – bands such a Gent Treadly & Stand-Up  to street performers (or buskers as they say in jolly ole’ England), including The Kilted Juggler –  that will keep the Union Jack bunting festooned restaurant rollicking. 

You’ll be fueled by Jubilee Pasties ($5 each), a special variation on the Cornish classic inspired by the first British Diamond Jubilee since queen Victoria’s in 1897 that chef / partner Jason Hicks will serve on this day only. (And never again.) The festivities will with a special personal appearance by the event’s mascots - Lulu the corgi and Monty the English bull dog - and will include a charitable de-bearding (!), as well as a raffle for prizes, such as tickets to the new hit show One Man Two Guvnors (for which Jones Wood Foundry is the official restaurant), and a “mystery box” from Jones Wood regular Keith Richards, which will benefit the American-Scottish Foundation’s international children’s charities work.

Bedford Post Patio Open

Residents of Westchester, take note! Bedford Post has reopened its outdoor patio dining area for the season with extended hours and an even more extensive menu.  First launched last spring, the outdoor patio and grill is beautiful al fresco option for casual dining during the warmer months, offering seasonal fare from Executive Chef Jeremy McMillan. A communal table on the hill and an outdoor children’s play area for cricket are also in development.  

The Patio menu is served 5:30-10pm Wednesday – Friday, and 3-10pm on Saturday and Sunday, and includes a selection of Cichetti (small snacks or side dishes),including Fava Beans grilled in their pod, Grilled Ramps, and Charcoal Roasted Carrots with Cumin Vinaigrette, the menu is designed for sharing.  House-made Flatbreads are also available, including Bone Marrow Flatbread with Gremolata and Parmigiano and Puglian Tomato Pizza with Shaved Garlic and Dried Oregano.  Additional entrees that make the most of their char-grilled preparation include Oysters on the Half Shell, Seared Hamachi with Fermented Chilies and Cucumber, Half or Whole Lobster, and Jumbo King Crab Leg, all served hot and on a bed of rock salt.   

On the new Farmhouse menu you’ll find family style options and a la carte specialties such as Pork Chop with Stone Fruits and Watercress; Organic Salmon with beets, poppyseeds and shellfish broth as well as the ever-popular signature dish, Johnboy’s Chicken with Artichoke and White Bean Salad.  There’s also Cavatelli with Sausage, Fava Beans and Ricotta and Black Linguini with King Crab and Preserved Lemon; a range of cured meats such as Seafood Sausage with Grilled Lemons and Arugula and Duck Terrine with Liver Mousse, Pickles and Mustard; as well as seasonal small bites, including Spicy Broccoli with Pine Nuts and Steamed Artichokes bagna cauda.
