Sunday: New Amsterdam Market: Basic Knife Skills Workshop

Come on down to the introductory 2-hour hands-on class to basic kitchen knife skills will kick off a new series of cooking classes organized by chef Will Griffin of I8NY and Local Roots CSA. Come learn how to peel and dice a variety of vegetables, fruits, and herbs. Tickets are available for two sessions, at 12PM and at 5PM. Knives and food for cutting practice will be provided, and the workshop is sponsored by Brooklyn Butcher Blocks. A handcrafted cutting board can be purchased at a generous discount with your ticket.

LIC Market’s 2nd Anniversary Pig Roast and Clam Bake

Next time I have a birthday, I’m gonna model my party after the 2nd anniversary bash in honor of Chef/Owner Alex Schindler’s LIC Market this weekend. The party is a two-day fete--on Saturday, July 28th and Sunday, July 29th – that includes both a pig roast and a clambake.  The weekend-long event will feature food, drinks and fun.

For just $25 you can feast on either roastedsuckling pig, rice and black beans, corn, tamales, pico de gallo, romaine, queso fresco and tortillas, or cherrystone clams, steamer clams, PEI mussels, prawns, steamed potatoes with salsa verde, corn and chorizo. Hungry for something a little different?  LIC Market will also feature steamed lobsters with lemon, parsley and drawn butter, or a rack of BBQ beef short ribs with housemade chipotle BBQ sauce for $22 per person during its anniversary weekend. Thirsty?  You’ll drink up with (6 each) $25 beer buckets and $4 mimosas and sangrias ($20 per pitcher).

Two of Fairway Market’s most inimitable experts will share their vast knowledge about wine and cheese at a one night only Summer Soiree at the Hamptons Players Club (103 Montauk Highway) in East Hampton on Sunday, July 29, 2012.

 

Starting with cocktails and snacks in the beer garden at 6pm the evening continues with the 7pm Master Class and a three course dinner featuring Agromonte/Aromatica Italian foods. All proceeds will benefit the Yorkville Common Pantry (www.ycp.org) which is dedicated to reducing hunger while promoting dignity and self-sufficiency. There will be a raffle of gourmet items and experiences and guests will leave with a gift filled with Fairway and Agromonte/Aromatica products.
