“Tamarind Tribeca Opens”

Indian food lovers can find their fill of kati rolls and dosas at cart vendors across the city, and if you’re really adventurous, you head to Queens. But finding good Indian fare in a nice restaurant can be a little trickier. Tamarind in the Flatiron District has been one of those options for nearly a decade. Now owner Avtar Walia has opened Tamarind TriBeCa this week. Mr. Walia is still serving the varied dishes of India in this soaring 11,000-square-foot space which seats 175 people on two levels between a main dining room and a 1,500-sqaure-foot mezzanine (it’s designed by Wild Champman, who designed the original Tamarind).

Once you enter the new, more modern-style digs, you’ll pass a stylish bar and cocktail lounge with a marble and onyx bar. There’s also a communal wine table framed by a wall of Brazilian teak and lit by an illuminated wine display. The main courses range from $16 to $32 and appetizers go for $7 to $15. On the spring menu are sea bass (served with yogurt, dill, lime zest and coated with peppercorns), lobster masala, bataki kosha (duck with mustard, onion, garlic, ginger and garam masala hand-rolled in a rice crepe with black salt and tangerine chutney) and daab chingri (prawns in a baby coconut with green chilies, ginger, lemon juice, curry leaves and mustard seeds). You can sit in the intimate booths and look at the floor-to-ceiling windows as you’re surrounded by limestone-clad columns that reach the 18-foot ceilings.

Tamarind TriBeCa is open seven days a week with lunch served 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. every day. Dinner on Sunday through Thursday is served 5:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. and until midnight on Friday and Saturday.

Tamarind in TriBeCa is located at 55 Hudson St. (near Franklin St.), 212-775-9000.

“Wish .”

The elaborate essay of this eatery sounded very tempting . When you dine at this new spot all one feels is like a huge hot air baloon which has been gased to look like superman but unfortunately to ones dislike doesn't live upto its claim.
