“Terroir's Summer of Riesling Starts Now!”

Terroir's fifth annual Summer of Riesling has begun: a season-long, nationwide extravaganza founded by 2012 James Beard Award-winning sommelier Paul Grieco in celebration of his most beloved, and possibly the world's most underrated grape.

With the help of Riesling enthusiasts (or “Acidhounds”) across the globe, Summer of Riesling has evolved from an in-house celebration at the 24-seat Terroir in the East Village to a large-scale movement that encompasses many of the best restaurants, wine bars and retailers.  In its fifth year, Summer of Riesling is bigger, better and badder than ever, with a slew of Riesling-soaked events and more than 400 restaurants and wine bars around the country participating (complete list here).

Each participating venue has committed to pour three Rieslings by the glass for all 94 days of summer.  For the entire month of July, two of those Rieslings must be from Germany—a nod to the birthplace of the majority of the world’s Riesling.  In turn, Terroir provides these wine bars and restaurants with Summer of Riesling care packages that contain T-shirts designed by graphic maestro Steven Solomon, wine list inserts with fun Riesling facts and buckets of Riesling flair (tattoos, buttons, stickers and more).

An array of Summer of Riesling events are already on the calendar, including:

  • 31 Days of German Riesling Concert (July 24) aboard a boat named The Jewel that will set sail around New York Harbor
  • Summer of Riesling dunk tank at San Francisco’s Outside Lands festival (August 10-12)
  • Ode to Austria Festival in Chicago (August 17-19)
  • A week-long New York City visit from Annika Strebel, the 2012 German Wine Queen
  • 21 Riesling Dinners at restaurants around the U.S

Cheers!
