“Amali Outdoor Barbacoa in the Middle of Midtown”

The Mediterranean restaurant Amali (owned by the folks behind Il Cantinori, Periyali and Bar Six) will be hosting an outdoor barbacoa of lamb and whole animals, turning 60th Street into a mini barbecue heaven. Chef Junior Borges is procuring the lambs from Kleinhans Farm in Flemington, New Jersey which is owned by Amali’s neighbor, Elysabeth Kleinhans, President of the 59E59 Theater. Kinda cool.

Beginning July 26th, the roasts will take place Thursdays – Saturdays with two seatings, one from 12-3 and another from 5-7PM. Amali will post each week’s offerings on www.amalinyc.com and Facebook and Twitter. The first course will include a changing roster of traditional Mediterranean tomato salads from Lebanon to Spain - from panzanella, to the Greek village salad to the fatoush salad of Lebanon. The second course might include anything from “stolen lamb,” a dish from colonial-era Greece, to Portuguese-inspired pork dishes from their Brazilian born Chef Junior Borges, as well as Italian and Spanish influenced dishes.

The Barbacoa menu is $40 per person. Reservations are recommended as a limited supply of meat will be cooked.

Amali is located at 115 East 60th Street, between Park and Lex, (212) 339-8363.
