All Hands on Deck: A Benefit Cookbook to Restore Red Hook’s Small Business Community gives home cooks a chance to try out some of the waterfront neighborhood’s favorite cocktails and dishes – and help local small businesses at the same time. As most of you by now know, many Red Hook small businesses suffered terrible damage during Hurricane Sandy. To help them fund the clean up and repair efforts necessary to reopen after the storm, a group of Red Hook residents and friends of the neighborhood collected recipes from local businesses to create the cookbook. Photos and personal stories accompany the recipes contributed from Red Hook restaurants, bars, and food businesses.

The book includes a foreword by Tejal Rao, restaurant critic for The Village Voice, and features 25 recipes and photographs, including Irish Coffee from cocktail bar and restaurant Fort Defiance, Pumpkin Almond Cake from bakery and coffeehouse Baked, and Lobster Mac & Cheese from Red Hook Lobster Pound.

All proceeds from sales of the $15 cookbook will be donated to ReStore Red Hook, an organization formed to raise funds to aid the neighborhood’s small businesses in recovering from Hurricane Sandy. The cookbook’s publishers hope to raise $5,000 to donate to the group.
