the buzz

“Sparkling Vodka? Why, Yes! This is Camitz. ”

Bubbles are always fun. Bubbles in wine, bubbles in water, bubbles in the air, bubbles in the bath. They just make you smile. And now bubbles are coming to a new medium, one that’s never seen them before—vodka. Yes, vodka. Camitz is a brand new SPARKLING VODKA imported from Sweden made from water sourced from the ice-age underground springs of Töllsjo and from grains harvested from the Swedish fields of Västergötland near the distillery. It’s distilled five times before being carbonated with an all-natural CO2 source that’s specially filtered for the vodka.

What results is, I’ll be honest, a bit unexpected at first. Vodka usually doesn’t usually pop when opened, or have a gentle fizz when poured. But then again, a little something unexpected is always nice. Have a sip and you’ll find the taste is clean and fresh, with just a slight natural acidity, which makes it pair up well with fresh seafood, raw bar, caviar, sushi and even a well-marbled slab of beef. It’s also just fine on its own.

In terms of how to drink it, always have it chilled (either from an ice-bucket or from a fridge, but DO NOT put it in the freezer) and then feel free to mix it with whatever you like. I like it on the rocks with a splash of fresh lime juice, but the possibilities are endless. It’s sort of a clean palate for flavors—mint, peach, ginger, lemongrass, you name it.

Once your bottle is open, it can be saved, chilled, with a champagne stopper, for about 3 days.

Camitz retails for about $45 a bottle and is available at Sherry-Lehmann, Astor Wines and as of next week, Morrell’s. If you want to taste it before you buy it, try it in a cocktail at Le Cirque, Quality Meats, Park Avenue Winter, and Smith & Wollensky.

Cheers!

“Another Sparkling Vodka”

Hi, just thought you would like to know that there is another sparkling vodka called O2 that I first tried about 4 years ago in London that is now available here. I bought a bottle at Astor and it makes the most amazing sparkling Martinis - my cocktail of choice now!
