“Shake Shack's new Competition ”
From the looks of things, Shake Shack may be getting some serious competition from Tabla with its new Street Cart, an outdoor, take-out food stand located in front of the restaurant on Madison Avenue at 25th street. Every Monday-Friday from 11:30am-3pm, you’ll find the cart stocked with chef Floyd Cardoz’s New Indian “street foods.” So far, his menu includes Chicken Tikka Frankies with mint chutney (think Indian burritos, $8), Bhel Puri $6—a puffed rice snack food tossed with local apples, green mango, and tamarind chutney, and for dessert, frozen Kulfi Pops ($4)—Tahitian vanilla bean coated with chocolate. To drink, there’s the most deliciously refreshing summer limeade called Pombupani ($4) that’s spiked with pomegranate juice. While it’s the right refreshment for the Chicken Tikka Frankie, I have to say, it goes well with a Shack Burger, too. Who knows, a Tikka Hut may be next.

Annoying. Just yesterday I was stuck in the Flatiron district with forty minutes to catch a bite. In my third and final attempt to appreciate a Shack burger, I did my time in line only to receive what was in my opinion a pretty crappy, floppy thin, well-done disappointment. Only now I come to find out Andrea is reporting the launch of a Tabla street cart just across the park, serving up both delicious bites to go and the best competition around. I should have read the bulletin sooner.
