“Silvano to open Bistecca, then Scuderia”

Silvano Marchetto will transform Da Silvano Cantinetta into Da Silvano Bistecca next week. The new restaurant, which will be more casual without tablecloths, will be a convivial Italian style steakhouse with steaks and burgers and recession-conscious pricing.

The menu starts off with antipasti like lamb ribs (7.50), hearts of lettuce and gorgonzola ($8.50), and mussels and beans ($8.50), and moves on to offer several carnivorous secondi including grass-fed Sfilacciona (hanger steak) with gorgonzola ($24), double steak for two ($28), L’entrecote ($16.95), a bison steak ($24), a mixed grill (P/A), a fish of the day, as well as a grass-fed burger ($12.50). But Silvano, who hails from Florence, is most excited about his bistecca fiorentina ($75 for two). To complete the plate, there are sides like creamed spinach, potato croquettes and chickpeas and onions ($5.50 each).

Stay tuned in January when Silvano and partners will open their newest restaurant, Scuderia.

Da Silvano Bistecca will open next week (Monday or Tuesday) at 260 6th Avenue New York NY 10014 (Between Houston and Bleecker Streets), 212-844-0282.
