“Permanent Brunch”

At long last, Lesly Bernard’s all-day brunch restaurant, Permanent Brunch, has opened. The only thing is, at the moment, it’s only open for dinner. Brunch is set to start Aug. 1. But no matter, the brunch menu goes all day and all night.

Lesly’s first chef, Colin Alevras, is no longer involved. He’s in charge of the (very impressive) beverage program at DBGB. In his place, Lesly has hired a great consulting chef—Meg Grace of The Redhead—who’s a little bit April Bloomfield, a little bit Susan Spicer. While Grace continues as chef of Redhead, her menu at Permanent Brunch sounds like this: butter-poached shrimp and grits, baked eggs with short rib ragù, and braised mushrooms with Salvatore ricotta and poached egg. She’s also introducing a bacon bar with five varieties, $3 an order.

Bernard will change his Yakitori restaurant, Mr. Jones, into Cantina Latina later this summer.

Permanent Brunch is located at 95 First Avenue, near Fifth Street, (212) 533-3315.

“Shrimp & Grits were amazing!”

I went during the soft opening & thought the shrimp & grits and buttermilk pancakes were so good! I am a huge fan of Meg Grace to begin with from eating at the Redhead a few times. Must try the donut of the day - yum!
