“Five Fun Ways to Occupy Yourself this March!”

Some days it seems like there’s nothing new to do. You go out for dinner, you go to the movies, you go to the theater. Now that’s all well and good, but sometimes you just want to do something a little less ordinary. Here are a few fun foodie activities (all taken from The Strong Buzz Events Calendar) that'll wake up your social life. Enjoy!

Monday, March 16th: The Big Lebowski at Monday Night Movies at Huckleberry Bar, 588 Grand Street (corner of Lorimer), 718-218-8555

Tonight, at their weekly Monday Movie Night, the folks at Huckleberry Bar in Williamsburg will be screening the cult favorite, The Big Lebowski (at 10pm). I hope all you Achievers will make it your business to get over there (in costume or not) because the Dude’s favorite cocktail (White Russians) will be served all night, for $8.

Sunday March 19th: Catch March Madness at Wildwood Barbeque, 225 Park Avenue South, 212-533-2500

If you can’t make it to Detroit for the Big Dance the folks at Wildwood Barbecue have set up a new HD jumbo projector and six additional HD TVs to get you as close to the action as possible without being there. They’re serving up fan favorite arena grub including jumbo pretzels, popcorn, nachos, hot dogs, and chili dogs, in addition to special Rueben sliders and a Final Four spread big enough to feed the whole team. Special 16oz PBR “tall boys” are just $5. These NCAA Tournament specials (and many more) kick off March 19th following Selection Sunday.

Saturday March 21st: Dinner and Dancing at Inside Park, 109 East 50th Street - Entrance on Park Avenue, (212) 593-3333.

I can’t remember the last time I danced in between courses, that is other than my own wedding. To celebrate spring, chef Matt Weingarten is hosting Swing into Spring on Saturday, March 21st at Inside Park. He’s invited Gregory Moore and His Cosmopolitan Orchestra to get you in the mood to break out your best moves and will serve a three-course menu inspired by the vernal equinox with dishes like the Last of the Winter Cellar’s Parsley Root Soup (with brown butter and capers), Vernal Equinox Egg Raviolo with preserved truffles and leeks and grass-fed New York Strip with grilled sweet onions and roasted potato. The Swing into Spring Dinner is. $55 per person (beverage, tax and gratuity not included) and will be served in two seatings: 6-6:30 pm and 9-9:30 pm. For reservations, please call (212) 593-3333, or reserve online at OpenTable.com.

Saturday March 21st: Jimmy’s First Annual NYC Chowder Slam
Do you consider yourself a chowder connoisseur? Test your taste buds at Jimmy’s First Annual NYC Chowder Slam, from 12:00pm - 5:00pm at Jimmy's No. 43  (43 East 7th Street). In addition to a variety of chowders cooked by local chefs, there will be New England brews on tap.

$20 at the door will benefit New Amsterdam Market, a local organization promoting our region's agriculture and building a new community of purveyors, whose common goal is to pioneer environmentally and socially responsible food production: www.newamsterdammarket.org

Tuesday March 31st: Village Voice Choice Eats Tasting Benefits Harvest Time
Some eat to live… others live to eat. No matter which defines you, you are sure to find yourself enjoying and indulging at The Village Voice’s second annual Choice Eats tasting event held on Tuesday evening, March 31st starting at 6:30 pm.

The lucky chosen restaurants that get to strut their food in front of ticket holders have all been reviewed in the past year by well known food critics Robert Sietsema and Sarah DiGregorio, bringing together an eclectic mix of over fifty under the radar restaurants across all cuisines and New York’s boroughs.

This year the event is even bigger and better than last, with twice as many restaurants, a grand venue at the historic 69th Armory (68 Lexington Avenue @ 26th Street), and a non-profit partner, Slow Food NYC, raising money from ticket sales for Harvest Time, which promotes programs of good food and nutrition education for students in East Harlem and Williamsburg where diseases such as obesity and diabetes are at high risk.

Tickets are on sale now, so get em’ while they’re hot, as last year’s event sold out almost a month in advance. You must be 21 years of age to attend and can purchase tickets at the following link: http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/52756 for the recession friendly price tag of $35 per person.
