“Chef's Table Opens at John Dory Oyster Bar”

New Yorkers are not shy about two things: spending money and eating. Fortunately, restaurateurs are helping us make the most of our wallets and appetites lately with prix-frixe group dining options. Momofuku Ssam Bar practically started the trend with the Bo Ssam pork shoulder menu ($180) and the even more popular (and artery clogging) Beef Seven Ways at Ma Peche for $450, which feeds 4-8 very hungry carnivores. Naturally, the trend spread and other restaurants followed suit.

The John Dory Oyster Bar just introduced its Chef’s Table, where you and 8-12 of your closest friends can experience the cuisine of Chef April Bloomfield while tucked away inside the chef’s kitchen. The Chef’s Table takes one reservation per day at 7 pm, 7 days a week, for $95 a head ($145 with wine pairings).

Another benefit to these seemingly overpriced “feasts” is that you can reserve a table in a restaurant that normally doesn’t even take reservations. Sample menu from Chef Bloomfield and Chef de Cuisine Josh Even is below.  You can expect signature items like the Parker House rolls with char pate, chorizo stuffed squid with smoked tomato, and coconut crab soup.

The John Dory Oyster Bar is located at 1196 Broadway (at 29th st) and reservations can be booked via email at chefs.table@thejohndory.com or calling 646.214.5764.
