“Chocolate Camp for Kids, Brunch Debuts at Elettaria and JoeDoe”

Saturday: Chocolate Camp for Kids at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Brasserie 1605, 1605 Broadway, Crowne Plaza Intercontinental Hotel, Between 49th and 48th Streets.

If your kids are crazy for chocolate, get ready for a major sugar high this Saturday morning (and the first Saturday of every month) at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Times Square. The confectionary class includes the preparation and making of truffles, chocolate covered strawberries, brittles, fudges and caramels—all the essentials for a day out of a Willy Wonka dream. The class is limited to 10 kids (ages 10-16) and runs from 3-4pm. The cost is $25 per child. For reservations, call 212-315-6000.

Saturday/Sunday: Brunch at Elettaria, 33 W. 8th Street

If you’re en route to lay out and soak up the sun by Washington Square Park or off to shop the streets of Soho, make a pit stop over at Eletteria as they finally open their big red door for brunch starting this Sunday, June 7th, with a preview bonus day before, on Saturday. Chef Akhtar Nawab is getting in touch with his Southern roots for his weekend menu (he hails from Kentucky) that includes sausage cheese biscuits and gravy ($7), a Benedictine & bacon sandwich ($12), fried duck egg with buckwheat farina, pancetta, and tomato marmalade ($9) and a slew of housemade hot dogs. Top it all off with some afternoon bubbly with their Trio of Sparkling Bellini’s ($10 each) or try their Brewdriver (!)—a cold beer poured over OJ ($6). Hey, don’t knock it ‘till you try it. Brunch is served Sundays from 11:30am - 3:00pm. For reservations, please call 212.677.3833.

Sunday: Never Ending Brunch at Joe Doe, 45 East 1st Street, 212. 780.0262

I’ve never been one for early brunching (especially now that I don’t sleep at night thanks to our little Emily), so news that JoeDoe will be serving a "Never Ending Brunch" on Sundays from 11am - 8pm was music to my ears. All day brunch begins this weekend with a menu that includes a pork jowl benedict with Hollandaise and home fries ($11), chilaquiles al Tulum—with chorizo, avocado, tortilla and eggs ($14), corned duck hash with poached eggs and rye toast ($17) and lunch-ish sandwiches like the Philly Tongue II—a “Jewish Italian Stallion” on a quark parker roll ($13). To drink ($11), have the Cerveza Preparada—a Dominican pilsner with hot sauce and fresh lime, or the Spider Cider—a mix of sparkling wine and apple cider. The best part? You can take your time, they’ll be there all day.
