“Brunch at Recette, A Nosh on the LES, Five Little Piggies”

Brunch Begins at Recette

Frittata with broccoli rabe, olives, and mozzarella; a roasted mushroom omelet with Parma ham, homemade ricotta and spinach, pork belly “pastrami” hash with fried eggs and Hollandaise, and PB&J “Pain Perdue” with earl gray milk jam and fresh strawberries are all on chef Jesse Schenker’s new brunch menu at Recette, debuting this weekend, in time for spring and the arrival of brunch weather.

His menu also includes choices like grilled hanger with charred country bread, two fried eggs and local greens; organic oatmeal with fresh bananas and sweet cream, and Greek yogurt with organic granola and fresh berries. And what would a meal at Recette be without duck fat fried fingerling potatoes? The devil on your shoulder will have you all over former Per Se pastry chef Christina Lee's homemade breakfast pastries: like homemade coffee cake and and buttery cinnamon buns studded with rum soaked raisins and a rum sugar glaze. Go ahead. Embrace your little devil.

Recette is located at 328 West 12th Street on the corner of Greenwich Street, 212-414-3000. Brunch is served Saturday & Sunday 10:00am–3:00pm.

How to Cook a Pig

What do you get when you mix five chefs, with five kinds of heritage pig, and five wineries? Well, in this instance at least, it’s the second annual Cochon 555, a pig-cooking contest, with five chefs cooking at least five kinds of heritage pigs in an array of preparations served with wines from five wineries!

This year’s event will be held on Sunday March 21 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Pier 60 of Chelsea Piers, 23rd Street and the Hudson River. The event travels to 10 cities, with the final at the Food & Wine Classic in Aspen in June. For tickets, $125: cochon555.com.
