“Loire Valley at the General Greene, Pizza for Brunch, Adirondack Food and Wine Festival”

Friday: The Loire Valley Comes to the General Greene
If you love the wines of the Loire Valley (and with the warm summer weather coming, everyone should be), then be sure to make plans for dinner on Friday night at The General Greene which welcomes Francois and Manuela Chidaine (Vouvray/Montlouis, and one of my favorite producers) and Matthieu Baudry (Chinon) for a four course dinner paired with six Loire Valley wines ($90 inclusive of tax and tip). These two producers are the acknowledged leaders in their appellations - it's a rarity to have them at one dinner. For Reservations call Chambers Street Wines 212-227-1434 or email office@chambersstwines.com

Saturday and Sunday: Pizza for Brunch? Sure.

I am a huge fan of brunch, and an even bigger fan of good pizza. When you put the two together, you can’t really go too wrong. This weekend, what not try the new brunch at 57 Napoli Pizza e Vino? Chef Salvatore Olivella, a Neapolitan pizza maker who was the original pizzaiolo at No 28 and L’Asso before, has launched a new menu that marries pizza and brunch. His brunch menu is served all day from 10 am until midnight on Saturday and till 11pm on Sunday, along with the regular menu. Bottomless Mimosas will be offered with brunch items all day as well.

Salvatore is making Neapolitan pizza from a wood burning brick oven with house-made hand-pulled fresh mozzarella (also serving antipasti, salads, panini, piedine and pastas but pizza is truly the star here), so, naturally, there will be brunch pizzas ($14-$15 per pie), including the Carne with 2 eggs any style, mozzarella and Italian meats like sausage, and prosciutto); the BLT with tomato, lettuce and bacon and the Classic NY Brunch with eggs, ham and cheese. Omelets, frittate, pancakes, French toast and other brunch classics round out the menu.

57 Napoli Pizza e Vino is located upstairs at 120 East 57th St., NYC, 212-750-4586. It’s a little hidden. You’ll find it upstairs from C’est Bon Café at the same address.
