Saturday: Giving Through Growing at the Added Value Harvest Festival

Woodbridge by Robert Mondavi’s Giving Through Growing program, an ongoing partnership with the American Community Gardening Association, is leading a free consumer workshop at the Added Value Harvest Festival in Red Hook on Saturday, October 16, 2010.

You'll be encouraged to get your hands dirty while learning about the greening movement and the benefits of community gardening. American Community Gardening Association President Bobby Wilson will lead two workshops during the Festival to teach consumers gardening 101 basics, how to maintain crops and turn bountiful harvests in to simple and nutritious meals.

Added Value is a non-profit organization promoting the sustainable development of Red Hook by nurturing a new generation of young leaders.  Added Value has three main initiatives: Growing a Just Food System, Youth Empowerment, and Farm-Based Learning.  The Harvest Festival will also boast live music, cooking demonstrations and tastings from local restaurants.

The inspiration for this program continues to be Robert Mondavi himself who once said, “This is my life, fine food, and fine wine bringing everyone together around the communal table.” The same philosophy holds true for community gardens, where neighbors work together to grow quality produce in local gardens, which can then be enjoyed with family and friends as part of a healthy and enriched culinary experience.

The Festival takes place at the Red Hook Community Farm located at 3-49 Halleck Street on Saturday from 10am - 5pm.
