Fermented Harmony

The class will take place at the Brooklyn Museum on Friday, March 25, from 7pm to 8:30pm, and it’s the first of five classes he'll be leading there this spring as part of the museum's expanded Thursday and Friday hours.

The second class, Fermented Spain: Wine, Cheese & Ham, takes place on Friday, April 29 at the same location. Both classes will be held inside the glass pavilion at the museum's main entrance, and price includes admission to the museum, which remains open until 10pm on Thursdays and Fridays.

Sunday Supper at Chelsea Market

Chelsea Market may not be as glitzy as Eataly, but it’s still a foodie’s playpen. It gets even better for the third year in a row on March 27 when the Sunday Supper at Chelsea Market benefits the Friends of James Beard takes place from 6 to 10 p.m. This isn’t your typical Sunday supper, though.

The Beard Foundation is pulling in the follow chefs: Mary Cleaver (The Green Table), Yang Huang and Brian Ray (Buddakan), Sarabeth Levine (Sarabeth’s Bakery), Amy Scherber (Amy’s Bread), Tryg Siverson (Friedman’s Lunch), Anne Quatrano (Bacchanalia in Atlanta), Jamison Blankenship (Morimoto), Clark Fraiser and Mark Gaier (Arrows in Ogunquit, Maine), Todd Gray (Equinox in D.C.), Alexandra Guarnaschelli (The Darby), Emily Luchetti (Waterbar in San Francisco), Joey McAtee (Honey in Doylestown, Pennsylvania), Masahuru Morimoto (Morimoto), Michel Nischan (The Dressing Room in Westport, Connecticut), Dan Silverman (The Standard Grill), Brent Sims (The Green Table), Bill Teleplan (Telepan) and Jacques Torres (Jacques Torres Chocolates).

Tickets are $200 for members of the Beard Foundation and $240 for the general public. You can buy the tickets online at www.jamesbeard.org/chelseamarket or call 212-627-2308.

The night kicks off with an hour-long cocktail reception from 6 to 7 p.m., while the seated dinner is from 7 to 10 p.m. You can expect lots of family-style dishes with local ingredients. Beard, the father of American gastronomy, would be proud.

Chelsea Market is located at 75 Ninth Ave. (between 15th and 16th Streets).

Brunch at Edi & the Wolf

The new brunch menu at Edi & the Wolf begs you to come in and stay awhile.

Launched on March 5th, the brunch is as much a bargain as it is a delight. For just $14, you can start the weekend with your choice of entree, served with robust coffee, espresso or macchiato, and fresh orange or carrot juice. An assortment of bread is also included, a perfect vessel for slathering on two kinds of butter and jam.

Entrees include fluffy scrambled eggs paired with salty cubes of speck and topped with crispy fried onions. Fingerling potatoes, roasted with spring onions, Parmesan and a bright hint of lemon zest, easily upstage your average home fries. Sweet morsels of pancake batter are caramelized and decadent with seasonal fruit.

For those craving lunch fare, a selection of tartines are served open faced on a slate slab. Last but not least, heritage pig schnitzel, the Austrian standby from the dinner menu, makes an appearance under the guise of a burger. It’s served with cucumber salad, bib lettuce, spicy tomato, and lemon aioli.

Round out the meal with some bubbly, or take your pick from a list of specialty drinks ($8). Try the unique spin on a mimosa, which combines orange and carrot juice for a sweet way to fill your vegetable quota.

Nestled on Avenue C, Edi & the Wolf barely has a sign on the door. It sits inconspicuously, waiting to be discovered. The wrought iron and rustic wood décor lures passersby with the promise of cozy, farm fresh food. And the brunch menu does not disappoint. The reclaimed furniture and homestyle cooking may just claim a place in the hearts (and stomachs) of brunch goers everywhere.

Edi & the Wolf is located at 102 Avenue C (between 6th and 7th), 212-598-1040, www.ediandthewolf.com.

Brunch is available from 11:30am to 4:00pm on Saturdays and Sundays.
