“NY Wine and Food Festival, Pizza Making 101, Harvest Festival at Wölffer, New Sunday Supper at Bar Blanc”

All Weekend Long: The New York Food and Wine Festival

Making its debut this year is one of the most anticipated food and wine festivals in recent memory, both for its incredible content and lineup of events, and its location—The Big Apple. You can thank Lee Schrager, Director of Media Relations for Southern Wines & Spirits of America (he's the savvy guy who brought us South Beach Food and Wine Festival) for the super playlist of celebrity chefs participating, from Food Network stars like Rachael Ray, Bobby Flay, Tyler Florence, and Alton Brown, to hometown favorites like Tom Colicchio, Alain Ducasse, Marcus Samuelsson, Alfred Portale, and many more who will be hosting dinners, doing culinary demos, and participating in panel discussions.

Saturday: "Pizza 101 All-Day Pizza-Making Seminar at South Brooklyn Pizza, 451 Court St. (at 4th Pl.), 718-852-6018.

If you've ever wanted to know how to make artisanal pizza in your own kitchen, but don’t have the foggiest idea of how to start (other than calling in for delivery), South Brooklyn Pizza is where you need to be on Saturday for their all-day pizza-making seminar. The class gets going bright and early at 9:30am and goes until 6:30pm, and includes a light lunch, and a pizza dinner (made by you and your fellow students to which you can invite friends and family).

In between eating and socializing, you’ll learn everything you need to know about how to prepare and make the best pizza ever, with an integrated in-depth presentation on pizza making from A-Z. The hands-on seminar will also cover the inside scoop on the best slice joints and traditional brick oven spots in the city and more.

The all day class is $375pp (payable at the door), with a portion of the day's proceeds being directly donated to benefit the Brooklyn Free School. You’ll leave with a goody bag stocked with all the tools-of-the-trade, ingredients and instructions for making pizza at home. Reservations are suggested (but walk-ins based upon space availability, are also welcome). To RSVP, call 212-463-8295.

Sunday: Grape Stomping Harvest Celebration at Wölffer Estate Vineyard

With the market in a tailspin, it’s probably a good time to unload some stress. Head out of the city this weekend and soak up the warm fall sunshine at the 20th Anniversary Wölffer Estate Vineyard Harvest Party in Sagaponack. Your day will include grape-stomping and picking, and all-around Harvest fun—a local band, barrel rolling contests, a stilt-walker making balloon animals, face painting and pony rides, and a hay ride. The grand finale is the third annual Crowning of the Harvest Queen. Contestants are judged according to their wine knowledge, grape-stomping technique, and original wine-related attire.

A harvest lunch made from local ingredients and paired with the Wölffer wine of your choice will also be served, with a special barbeque for children set up near the pony rides will offer kid-friendly hot dogs, hamburgers and Mac n’cheese.

The harvest celebration takes place from 11 a.m.- 4p.m. and is $75 for adults ($65 for wine club members), $35 for children (4 – 20), children 3 and under free. Wölffer Estate Vineyard is located at 139 Sagg Road, Sagaponack. Please RSVP at 631-537-5106 or www.wolffer.com. Advance registration is recommended. Rain Date: Monday October 13th.
