“Cooking at Fiamma, Brunching at Commerce, Baking with Sweet Melissa”

Saturday: Holiday Entertaining Cooking Class with Fabio Trabocchi at Fiamma, 206 Spring Street, 212-653-0100.

You’re probably at least thinking about what you’re going to make for the holidays at this point. If you need a little help, head over to Fiamma on Saturday, and join Fiamma’s Executive Chef Fabio Trabocchi for an intimate cooking class dedicated to the art of Holiday Entertaining. The class will cover delicious yet manageable dishes—Zuppa di Castagne (Chestnut Soup), Il Risotto alla Marchigiana (a cheesy Pecorino and white wine risotto), Tacchino alla Picena (Roasted Turkey Breast "Piceno style" Stuffed with olives and herbs)—that can be prepared in our diminutive New York City kitchens. The demonstration-style class ($120 each) will run from 11am until 1:30pm and includes prosecco, a three-course tasting menu and a complimentary cookbook (Cucina de la Marche).

Sunday: Brunch at Commerce, 50 Commerce Street, 212-524-2301

Located in the elbow of the one of the most quaint little cobblestone streets in all of the West Village, Commerce was built for cold blustery days like the ones we’re having now, and chef Harold Moore’s brand new brunch menu, which starts Sunday, will warm you up, even on winter’s most cruel days.

Piping hot cinnamon buns and donuts fresh from the oven ($7) should start your brunch off on a pretty good note. Follow then up with Croque Madame made with a freshly baked brioche and smoked salmon in place of ham ($15), a plate of fluffy brioche French toast with local apple marmalade ($13), or mushroom and Fontina ravioli ($17). Egg lovers have a wide variety of choice with baked eggs with spinach and truffles ($12), eggs sunny side up with homemade biscuits and sausage gravy ($14), or two Israeli classics—the “Israeli working man’s breakfast,”— homemade pita topped with scrambled eggs, parsley, and hummus or Shakshuka—poached eggs baked with melted peppers, onions ($14).

Brunch at Commerce starts this Sunday and is served from 11a.m.- 4 p.m. on Sundays only.

Sunday: Holiday Baking with Sweet Melissa at the Brooklyn Public Library’s Dweck Center, Central Branch, 10 Grand Army Plaza (at Eastern Parkway), 718-230-2100

If Holiday Baking is on your mind, be sure and attend this free holiday baking class at the Brooklyn Public Library with Melissa Murphy of Sweet Melissa. She’ll be dishing holiday baking secrets at a cooking demo and talk at Brooklyn Public Library's Central branch on Sunday, November 23rd at 1:30. You’ll learn how to make her Pear Cranberry Pie with Gingersnap Crumble recipe, and get to try some, too. Melissa will also be selling and signing her cookbooks. This event is free and no registration is necessary.
