“Wine Series at Le Bernardin, Brunch at Apiary, Queens Farm Benefit, and Cooking with C-CAP at Zabar's”

Saturday: Wine Series with Aldo Sohm at Le Bernardin, 155 West 51st Street, (b/t Sixth and Seventh Avenues), 212-554-1515.

If you’re going to learn about wine, why not do it with the Michael Phelps of the wine world, Aldo Sohm (he is the reigning “Best Sommelier in the World” as awarded by the World Sommelier Association). Sohm has started a series of Saturday classes (6 wines plus canapés for $125) beginning this week, focusing on the fundamentals of basic grape characteristics. This Saturday (from 3:00-4:30pm) he’ll compare Pinot Noirs of different styles and geography. Upcoming classes are as follows:

  • March 21st: Chardonnay Around The World
  • April 4th: Differences between Champagne, Prosecco, Cava and Sparkling Wine
  • April 25th: Cabernet: Comparisons of Style and Geography

Saturday and Sunday: Brunch at Apiary, 60 Third Avenue, between 10th and 11th Streets, 212-254-0888

Newly appointed chef Scott Bryan will start brunch service this weekend at Apiary in the East Village. His menu, served Saturdays and Sundays from 10:30am-2:30pm,  is pretty simple, but it’ll do the trick with options like frisee salad with bacon lardons, poached egg, mustard vinaigrette ($12), smoked salmon with capers, red onions, mixed greens ($12), spinach and cheddar omelette with home fries ($13), challah french toast with artisanal honey and strawberries ($14) and the Apiary burger topped with your choice of roquefort or cheddar, with homemade pickles, and home fries.

Saturday: Farm Benefit Dinner for the Queens County Farm Museum

It’s not exactly Blue Hill at Stone Barns, but if you’re serious about supporting local sustainability, this benefit for the Queens County Farm Museum is for you. On March 14, guests are invited to first attend a 5 p.m. workshop on pasture-raising rabbits and a tour of the 47-acre working farm, the only one of its kind in the city.
Farmer Julie Engel will then provide her pasture-raised rabbits for a 5-course dinner with New York-wine pairings beginning at 7 p.m. Michael Grady Robertson will team with the GradyWood supper club to provide pork, eggs, vegetables and honey produced on the farm for the dinner ($95 per person or $85 for Slow Food members). If you’re fearing the trek off the island, you can take comfort in the fact that you’ll actually know where your food came from as you gather around the farm’s cozy fireplaces.

The Queens County Farm Museum is located at 73-50 Little Neck Parkway, 718-347-3276, to buy tickets visit http://slowfoodnyc.org/adhoc/spring-benefit-dinner-at-queens-farm
