“Pizza in a Cone? ”

The classic New York slice--floppy, greasy, salty, cheesy--is something we all crave at one time or another (usually after midnight). These days, foodies are all over the thin-crust, authentic Neapolitan pies made from double zero flour, and DOC mozzarella, and olive oil from an artisan grove. So it's rather surprising to learn of the latest pizza situation: pizza in a cone? Yes, a pizza in a cone that’s not just some crazed permutation on a Hot Pocket.

It was snowy and wet this past weekend, but still, I had to try one. For starters, I love pizza like any other true New Yorker. Plus, any new and funky sounding food is a must try in my book. But before I even stepped into the newly opened K! pizzacone on the edge of Koreatown, I already heard a gaggle of guys pointing and laughing at the concept. It didn’t stop me from stepping into this sliver of a space, with its bright yellow walls and deep reds popping out next to a Jamba Juice.

The menu is pretty straightforward with ten different combinations of pizzas. You can fill savory pizza crusts with pesto or tomato sauce and choose any number of toppings, from four cheese and pepperoni to spicy salami and mushroom and bacon (for breakfast).

The small ones go for $4.90 and only a dollar more of a large one. There are two dessert pizza cones ($3.90) that include banana flambé and chocolate or chocolate and mixed berries. Whichever fillings you choose, be prepared to wait five minutes or so after you order, though.

Your pizza cone is assembled with fresh ingredients as you order and then goes into an oven, which keeps the folded crust nice and crisp. These cones are apparently common in Brazil, Italy and Russia already. In this city, there always seems to be more room for pizza. Let’s see if New Yorkers buy it. Or try it and let The Strong Buzz know what you think. Enjoy!

K! pizzacone is located at 325 Fifth Ave. (between 32nd and 33rd Streets), 646-823-9318, www.kpizzacone.com. Hours are daily from 7 a.m. until midnight .
