“Top Chef's Richard Blais to Freeze Popcorn in Midtown”

Top Chef runner up Richard Blais was a favorite contestant of mine and I was really bummed that he had such a tough go of the finale. But the days of Reality Competition are far behind him now, and he’s moved on to that wonderful thing known as cashing in (he’s a dad now so he’s got a family to support after all).

Blais has signed on with Garrett Popcorn to create a summery treat that leverages his passion for molecular gastronomy. He’s created what they are calling the Popcornsicle, a flash frozen ball of popcorn on a stick (its frozen with Blais’ secret ingredient on the finale, liquid nitrogen) and served up in flavors like CaramelCrisp and CheeseCorn popcorn. To demo his Willie Wonka styled Popcornsicles, Blais will be in town the week of July 14th (July 15th, 16th, and 17th) from 11:30am – 2:30pm, creating and sampling all free-of-charge.

As you can see in the picture above, when you eat the popcornsicle, a “cold fog” billows from your mouth. It's pretty cool. Stop in and try one and you’ll also have the chance to win a tin of Garrett Popcorn. Garrett Popcorn is located at 560 Fifth Avenue; corner of Fifth Avenue and 46th Street.

“Richard Blais”

Just got back from midtown Manhattan for a visit to Garrett Popcorn to try Richard Blais' Popcornsicle. It is fun to eat, and it was great to see well-dressed business people on the streets of New York on a hot summer afternoon enjoying this molecular treat. Richard was so engaging with everyone who spoke to him. Good luck, Richard. You were definitely a favorite from Top Chef!
