“Salumeria Rosi to open Friday on the Upper West Side”

Speck di Tirolo, Bresaola, Salame Toscano Finocchiona, Cacciatorino Piccante, Coppa, Sopressata, and Cotechino di Modena are the stars of Cesare Casella's newest Italian market and restaurant, Salumeria Rosi. To bring his world of artisan salami and more to life, Cesare partnered with the Alessandro Rosi of Parma’s Parmacotto, a generations’ old cured and cooked meat business.

The UWS space seats only 25 and was designed by Oscar-winning set designer Dante Ferretti (The Aviator, Sweeney Todd) who worked with Italy’s Bari-based Costagroup to create a snug space evocative of a turn-of-the-century Italian market with bolt-studded iron walls, a mouthwatering hanging prosciutto display above the meat filled bancone salumeria, and wooden cubbies and shelves lined with imported specialty products.

In addition to a Harry Winston-like selection of cured and cooked meats, the Salumeria will also offer a menu of antipasti, salads and sides to share with friends over a few glasses of wine. You’ll find Cesare’s signature salad of soft scrambled eggs, pancetta and market greens (yum), a torta di porri—a savory tart made from leeks, pancetta and Parmigiano Reggiano, Cavolini—roasted Brussels sprouts with sun dried tomatoes, red onions and thyme, Cecine—chickpea flatbread with sea salt and rosemary, and Costine, spicy Tuscan spare ribs slow cooked with tomatoes, rosemary and garlic.

All of the cured meats are available for retail purchase and most of the menu will also be available To-Go.

Salumeria Rosi will open on Friday and is located at 283 Amsterdam Avenue, at 73rd Street, 212-877-4800. Lunch and dinner for now, breakfast soon!
